HCOTN 30072016

As I hurried out of the house, I sighted today's Punch and the struggle not to balance and read was real. When my more sensible "Self" presented a valid case, my Punch addict "Self" asked for a quick glance at the paper.

So, here's a quick commentary. A full blown one may or may not come later...

1. Why many women are not sexually satisfied (or something like that)
Hephzibah: Nice article generally. I just wonder why the impatience and self-centeredness of the men involved was not on the list of causes. To be honest, I think it's #1 but hey....

2. My first...Patrick Doyle
Hephzibah: I enjoyed this. I just wonder why Uncle Patrick cannot remember the title of his first feature movie. Was it that bad? Lol

3. Children rescued, mum drowned in Mediterranean Sea
Hephzibah: "Andrew", if you're thinking of checking out, abeg find another route, don't pass the Med...That sea ain't loyal. I hope people will come to the aid of these kids. If there is a father in the lives of those kids, I pray he comes forward and does right by them.

I'm on the road now (not driving). I hope Onuora Onianwa's column will be in tomorrow's Punch cos I'm waiting eagerly to share by God's grace (Yeah, I'm going to buy the paper copy and still read if online. Please don't ask and I won't tell.

Keep praying for Nigeria, please. We need it! Enjoy your day.

When The Skies Are Falling

I was watching how a #WailingWailer got so excited as she heard how Nigeria was quickly sliding into recession. I had to wonder if she wasn't a Nigerian....

I would not have voted for the APC, if I was permitted to vote. However, since Nigeria still operates a "democracy", "the people" have voted in a government that appears to have no clue where it is going. We can act like unreasonable folks that see the captain of the ship they are on flustered but are rejoicing because they had requested for another captain. Hmmmm!

I hope the government will humble itself and return to the then "clueless" now apparently "clueful" folks that they demonized in their quest for power. They can go "Nicodemusly" to ask for tips. It is obvious that the Economic Management Team is not experienced enough to handle our precarious conditions.

I hope the experts that were demonized will find a place in their hearts to forgive and help us.

I'll spend some time praying for help from above because when the skies are falling, it is a global question. May God help the Federal Republic of Nigeria!

Good morning.

Hephzibah's Commentary on Today's News
19/07/2016

**VANGUARD
1. Court order on reversal of electricity tariff may lead to loss of 10,000 jobs – Amoda
Hephzibah: What of the jobs that are currently being lost by this "paying for darkness" farce we currently operate? Show us what the money we're currently paying is used for before asking fo

2. DEMOLITION: Police battle protesting Alvan Ikoku students in Imo
Hephzibah: The police can't even keep their stories straight. Is it their tear gas or the students' bonfire that caused the smoke? If it is the tear gas as the PPRO unknowingly admitted, was the police not aware that there was a hospital close by? And why is the State Government demolishing structures? Governor Rochas, if you can't build new structures, please stop demolishing the ones you met na...Isshhh

3. Felix Ibru’s burial rites begin July 27
Hephzibah: Hol up! Hol up! Felix Ibru is dead? May God comfort his loved ones.

4. FG scraps common entrance interview test into Unity schools
Hephzibah: Sounds like a good move...I hope the deficiencies of the first test are dealt with though. We really need to get education right...

5. Christian, Muslim groups pledge to keep the peace in Plateau
Hephzibah: It's great that women are pledging peace. How about the men that are usually the instigators and perpetrators of these ugly incidents? How will we get them to pledge and adhere to their pledge?

6. Doguwa debunks selective anti-graft crusade
Hephzibah: I would have expected FACTS and FIGURES when DEBUNKING a claim but I guess as everything is CHANGING these days, the meaning of DEBUNKS has also changed...I need to know which NIGERIANS Oga Doguwa is talking about that are proud of the "War against corruption" that is only strong in the media...Sigh!

**PUNCH
1. Gas explosion kills three in Edo
Hephzibah: Please be VERY careful with gas cylinders. The details are still a bit sketchy. May the Lord comfort the loved ones of the deceased.

2. Details of police vehicles in my handover notes – Arase
Hephzibah: “It is unfortunate that this matter is being made a media issue because my successor has my telephone number and could have called me for any clarification or even sent me a text message rather than addressing the media on an issue well documented in my handover notes.”
Nothing more to add. Really, what's with all these public officials that embarrass themselves in public by making unsubstantiated allegations... I hope Oga Arase sues joor.

3. S’Africa concluding process to return $15m Nigeria’s arms fund
Hephzibah: How come S/A did not need a process to seize the funds but need a legal framework to release it? I hope we'll get some interest for the 2 years that S/A helped us "invest" the money in "productive" ventures? Hmmmm

4. Ambode promises enforcement of noise pollution laws
Hephzibah: Oga Ambode, I guess you know generators are major culprits but the government has no moral ground to ask anyone not to use generators with the epileptic power supply. I suggest that we focus a bit more on clean and less noisy sources of energy then we can enforce noise pollution laws, really....

5. Reps meet Buratai, IG over insecurity
Hephzibah: I'm struggling to see the benefit of this "meeting". First of all, it wasn't important enough for Oga Buratai or the IG to attend; they sent delegates. Secondly, they talked about " operational strategies" such as? Thirdly, it's kidnapping that is the big issue, right? How about Christians being beheaded and murdered? What of churches being harassed for worshipping on Fridays? That's not worth talking about, right?
#JusticeForEuniceAndOtherMassacreVictims.
I'm also still interested in how Oga Buratai saved to buy 2 houses in Dubai. That'll be my #2 question for him if we meet...

6. No more dismissal of corruption cases without trial – CJN
Hephzibah: Amen ooooo....Not after all the media trials....

**THISDAY
1. Buhari: Judiciary Not Doing Enough to Fight Corruption
Hephzibah: "However, the CJN warned that the judiciary could not act on its own without the support of all stakeholders in the justice sector."
Perfect response CJN...
What is my Unku Femi Adesina saying about not needing to respect Federal Character in appointments? Is like Unku wants us to call family meeting on his head, abi?

2. Militants Bomb Shell Pipeline in Delta
Hephzibah: This blowing up of pipelines is an ill wind that blows no good. I don't even know what to say sef...

3. FG to Kick-start Campaign on Made-in-Nigeria Goods
Hephzibah: I hope we'll move beyond rhetoric and plenty grammar to help manufacturers improve on their products and services. The issues have been discussed over and over again...Now is not the time for plenty English; this is the time to swing into action. Please don't leave us high and dry like the Clean up of the Niger Delta. After the launch, no follow up...Sigh!

4. Remi Tinubu Writes IG, Seeks Police Protection from Melaye
Hephzibah: Dear IG, when you're not busy maligning your predecessor, can you please provide Facebook police protection for a few of my friends whose accounts are threatened by online "Melayes". Thanks

5. Saraki Restates Loyalty to APC, Mark, Nnamani, Masari Meet Buhari in Fence-mending Mission
Hephzibah: And we're paying them for all these? Sigh!

6. Expert Urges Firms to Adopt Import Substitution Strategies
Hephzibah: Great read. Please read the article here - http://www.thisdaylive.com/index.php/2016/07/19/expert-urges-firms-to-adopt-import-substitution-strategies/

**THE NATION
1. Ex-Oyo NURTW chief Auxiliary jailed
Hephzibah: How can someone's name be Auxiliary? Auxiliary what? I grudgingly accept the 6 year jail term since a rationale was given. I think he deserves more years in jail, though...Sigh!

2. Economists urge CBN to review forex policy
Hephzibah: It appears we may need to outsource the development of our forex policy. I understand Nigeria has tried every trick in the book...I suspect that if we focused a bit more on addressing the issues that make foreign products and services more attractive than locally made goods, we may just get it right...

3. EFCC probes Fayose’s associate over N59.6m MDGs’ cash
Hephzibah: *Includes this on the agenda for our family meeting*

**NEW TELEGRAPH
1. Aviation fuel scarcity bites harder, airlines reschedule flights
Hephzibah: Aviation fuel again? Why na?

2. NFF confirms New Telegraph exclusive, picks Le Guen as Eagles Coach
Hephzibah: So, we're back to the era of foreign coaches with the attendant capital flight...NFF, kontiniu...I hope we have money to pay him with all the "no money" I've been hearing upandan...

3. Man impregnates, procures abortion for daughter
Hephzibah: All of you carrying placards on Senators Tinubu and Melaye's fight, come and see where your energies are needed ooo (I'll make a separate post on this)

4. Herdsmen kill Plateau monarch, four others
Hephzibah: Still, we hear SILENCE...The blood of the slain cries out...

5. MEND to Buhari: Release Okah, drop charges against Tompolo
Hephzibah: These demands make no sense to me...Watching keenly...

**NIGERIA PILOT
1. Aftermath of Brexit: Nigerians earning less than 35,000 pounds in UK Panic
Hephzibah: My brethren, if in all the years you've been living in the UK, you've been earning less than 35000 pounds (per annum?), I think you need to relocate. It didn't worth it...If you can, try other countries. If not, start planning to return home. My people say "If it's hard to move forward, it shouldn't be too hard to return to where you're coming from". It may turn out to be your best decision, though it's a difficult one now...

2. Oil swap deals: Buhari orders probe of Kachikwu, NNPC
Hephzibah: Watching keenly...

HCOTN 10072016 (Part 2)

1. FG to phase out mud houses
Hephzibah: Including the one PMB declared as an asset? Issorait...

2. Protest against Ekweremadu's trial
Hephzibah: No wonder PDP chiefs were begging Ooni to epp Otunba Omisore. Which kind of people are we? If these people are innocent and are being kept in prison for no reason, the protests will make sense. Please let the law take its full course and stop embarrassing us na....

3. Abia crisis: Judge was misled, says PDP chieftain
Hephzibah: Erm, if a Governor is sacked because of forged tax documents (rightly so), what about elected officials that cannot produce their WAEC certificates (I didn't call anybody's name o)

4. Benue singer framed for murder released after SUNDAY PUNCH report.
Hephzibah: Which kind of country is this na? A policeman framed John Edwards for murder when he tried to retrieve his Blackberry Z30 phone that was seized by the policeman. Which kind of report is this sef? We don't even have the policeman's name. It shouldn't just end with "leaving it to God". Which kind of nonsense is this na?

5. Buhari's appointments: A tilt towards the North.
Hephzibah: Out of 17 "top" positions, only 3 are occupied by Southerners. I'm for meritocracy. However, it is statistically impossible to prove that the North only has people that are qualified for these positions. If so, what are we saying again about "educationally disadvantaged" states. Please make up your minds - Is the North full of so many qualified professionals and therefore we need to scrap that "educationally disadvantaged" nonsense when granting admissions into schools? Or is the North educationally disadvantaged and our president is guilty of nepotism, which is a terrible form of corruption?

6. Buratai: Buhari's anti-corruption war on trial
Hephzibah: So, what are we going to do about our Chief of Army Staff? Is he corrupt? If yes, will EFCC take him on like they've done with Col Dasuki? If he truly bought the houses with his savings, can we know the business that he did that yielded $1.5 million. Me sef, I want to invest in that business. Forget all those MLMs that'll tell you that they sell "household products" like toothpaste when they are pitching but when you check well, there is nothing like toothpaste in what they're offering...So so bleaching cream...shior...General Buratai, don't mind the "haters" jere...Please show us the way sah.

7. Buhari's body language is changing - Prof Akinyemi
Hephzibah: I sure hope so. Quarrelling with Niger Delta militants no epp anybody, particularly as he pretends not to hear no evil about Book Haram insurgents, aka Fulani Herdsmen

8. Buhari's leading women
Hephzibah: I still miss Mama Peace and Aunty Ngozi. Aunty Kemi no know Maths and na so so Aisha and Amina remain. No glamour sef....Really, these are the leading women? Nigerian women, really? Sigh!

9. What Nigeria can learn from Sao Time and Principe - Taofick Okoya
Hephzibah: Uncle Taofick has useful ideas on what Nigeria can learn from Sao Time and Principe. He says Nigeria can emulate the way they've preserved their environment. They seem to have incorporated habitats of the resorts without really disrupting the ecosystem. Any Ecopreneur reading this? Let's see how we can use this FREE lesson...

So, I'll move on to Business Gist on my Business Blog. Keep praying for Nigeria o. It's up to you and I to keep contributing our quota to national development. Be encouraged.

May God bless and prosper the Federal Republic of Nigeria.

HCOTN 10072016

Hephzibah's Commentary on Today's News
10/07/2016

1. Plea Bargain Drama: EFCC asks Amosu, others to plead guilty, forfeit 33 houses
Hephzibah: EFCC, is it your guilty? Lol. Seriously, I'm concerned about all these snitches in our security agencies that will leak confidential secrets (for cash?) then be asking to remain anonymous. I think plea bargaining makes sense sometimes but it's just that APC demonized it when they were spreading propaganda. To return to it is sheer hypocrisy but then I ask "Hephzibah, is it your hypocrisy? My friend, face your ice cream and keep kwayet"

2. Fresh loan: FG doles 50 billion Naira to 35 states
Hephzibah: I don't understand this Nigeria again o. Only Lagos state did not apply for a loan...I like the conditions attached to the loans, though. Still, we need to merge some states, abeg....

3. Female Redeemed preacher killed during morning evangelism
Hephzibah: Which kind of country is this that one cannot preach with megaphone without getting killed? Honestly, the megaphone preachers get on my nerves but like my people would say, "the cure for headache isn't to cut off the head na"... I pray her killers will be unmasked and made to face the consequences of their actions...

4. Oyo reopens schools Monday
Hephzibah: Well done o, Mr Governor...But you're still borrowing money...Well done sir....

5. PENGASSAN strike: Marketers stop fuel supply to East, North
Hephzibah: PEF, why na? Why are you doing like this na?

6. PDP crisis: Peace talks hit brick wall
Hephzibah: Which "position of strength" are these people talking about? You berra go and take lessons from the great Jagaban, Saraki and Atiku...None of you has any position of strength jere...

7. PDP leaders beg Ooni to forgive, help Omisore
Hephzibah: Why did Otunba Omisore too not visit Ooni? What exactly do these PDP leaders want the Ooni to do? Command EFCC to release Otunba? I like Ooni's response...Na prayer Ooni pray o that God would set Omisore free IF he had no skeleton in his cupboard on the matter...Baba, go and talk wetin you know, abeg...

8. Alleged fraud: Fayose tackles Oni for criticising Ekiti government
Hephzibah: Wait o, even this my uncle Fayose follow join state wey collect loan from FG still he's quarrelling upandan? Hmmmm

9. Father absent as son becomes Lagos 'one day gov'
Hephzibah: First of all, The Punch, why is One Day Governor in inverted commas? And why can't you write Governor in full na (there was enough space on that line...). Anyway, it's sad that ill-health robbed the dad of the joy of seeing his son take the mantle of leadership for 1 day as the 16th One Day Governor. All the same, congratulations to Olaseinde Joshua, pupil of Shasha Community Senior High School.

10. Anambra to punish couples without sickle cell test
Hephzibah: Haba! E don reach like that...Abeg, make una calm down na...Bet why?

I'll need to do Part 2 (today) and run a commentary on Business news tomorrow. Sorry for my long silence. I hope you're still praying for Nigeria...

May God bless the Federal Republic of Nigeria
