One of the guys was filling out a form that required him to supply his Next of Kin and the beneficiary of the emoluments that should be paid in the event of his demise. He filled his wife's name as the Next of Kin but insisted that he would fill his own name as the Beneficiary. Sigh! How will a dead person enjoy financial benefits? I doubt he thought about it deeply...
By the way, this is the same man that expects his wife to pound yam for him any time he calls for it (no matter her condition).
He was shouting for all to hear, so I'm not betraying any confidence. He did NOT pay an enormous amount as bride price; he is just the product of the shameful patriarchal society that elevates the man above the woman just because of his genitals....And it's a shame...
It's mindsets like these that I do all I can to fight. Thankfully, the men around him told him that he was out of line. I don't know what he actually filled in the form but I was so glad to hear about 4 men lecturing him (just as they did when he came up with the pounded yam gist) about the proper way to treat his wife.
